The ROI of an AI Operating System: a worked example

Updated 2026-06-17

Illustrative example. The figures below are a worked model to show how the maths works, not a specific client result. Your actual numbers will differ with your team, your rates, and the scope of the install.

This is the return on a NEXGEN OS™ install, our productized AI Operating System. Take a $50M-revenue, operations-heavy SMB. If it removes 21 hours a week of manual staff work at a blended cost of $60 an hour, that is roughly $60,000 a year in recovered capacity against a one-time $15,000 to $35,000 install. The result is payback in about three to seven months, then around $60,000 a year recurring.

The maths behind NEXGEN OS™

Three inputs drive it: hours recovered, the blended hourly cost of that time, and the one-time install. Annualised over 48 working weeks (allowing for leave), the example looks like this:

Hours recovered per week21
Blended hourly cost$60
Annual recovered capacity (48 weeks)~$60,480
One-time install (midpoint)$25,000
Payback period~5 months
First-year net return~$35,480

At the $15,000 end of the range payback lands closer to three months, and at $35,000 closer to seven. Every year after the first, the recovered capacity keeps compounding while the install cost does not repeat. That compounding is the part a rented tool subscription never gives you: because you own the NEXGEN OS™ install outright, year two is pure return on infrastructure you already have.

What this leaves out (read this part)

  • Recovered hours are capacity, not a cheque. The value is real, but it shows up as more output and less overtime, not cash in the bank.
  • Ongoing optimisation is extra. Keeping the system improving is an optional monthly retainer, which you net off the annual saving. We scope it to what you actually need.
  • Ramp takes time. The full saving lands once the workflows are live and trusted, not on day one.
  • The model is deliberately conservative. 21 hours of senior coordination time is usually worth more than the $60 blended rate suggests.

Common questions

Are these numbers from a real client?

No. This is an illustrative model to show how the maths works, not a specific client result. Your figures will differ with your team size, rates, and scope.

What is the ongoing cost?

The install is a one-time $15,000 to $35,000. Keeping it optimised is an optional monthly retainer, scoped to your needs. You own the system either way.
